Winter
Endured the long winter,
I did not even flinch – once,
Icicles jutting down from weathered roofs,
Finches huddled sullenly on those roof tops.
I endured this winter too,
Stretched as far as eyes can see,
Mothers hiding their faces in
Turtle shells,
Their babies wrapped in
Sausage cases – scared to breathe,
Eyes closed shut tight ,
They might just become too friendly,
As an unwanted guest who refuses to leave.
The earth will complete yet another obligatory circle,
Spring comes as if running into long-awaited lover’s arms
Summer smolders and Fall assaults you with its burning colors
Then, the winter knocks,
Forces itself unto you
And, it sits in your favorite rocking chair,
Rocking, and Rocking-
Staring evenly at you,
Blowing smokes from its fat cigar,
Feeling right at home.
Winter, I just endure you,
Year after year after year.
[prologue: I am still mad as hell.]
