"DC 2002 ANA Convention Literary Events" - Call for Poems, Papers and Participation
The ANA Convention Literary Sub-committee is pleased to announce following literary events to be organized at the Association of Nepalis in the Americas (ANA) Annual Convention, July 4-7, 2002. ANA, in conjunction with the diverse and vibrant Nepali community of the Washington DC area, is hosting its 20th Annual Convention at the beautiful and famous Westfields Marriott Conference Center, Chantilly, VA, one of the premier convention venues in the East Coast.
1. Nepali Poetry Festival/Contest 2002
The Nepali Poetry Festival/Contest is tentatively scheduled from 5:00-7:30PM, Thursday, July 4th, 2002.
ANA Convention 2002 Literary Sub-committee invites poets to submit their poems for poetry contest. In order to participate in this event, poets must be present in person. If the poet is not present, his/her poem will not be included in the contest. The poem must be in Nepali language, original, unpublished and less than 135 words. It can be in any subject and style.
First, second and third prize winners will be awarded with “Sharma-Mudvary Nepali Poetry Award”. Certificates and cash prize of $125.00, $75.00, $50.00 will be given to first, second and third winners respectively. This session will be held in collaboration with International Nepali Literary Society (INLS), Washington, D.C.
This year, we plan to feature poetry recitation by youngsters in non-competitive category. If you would like your kids to participate on the poetry reading, please contact us. We also accept any literary creation on any language for the non-competitive category.
The deadline for the entry is June 15th. We must receive your entry by this date. The entry for the competition will be closed once we receive first 20 poems. In case of not having enough entries, the deadline will be extended. Please submit your full name, phone number, e-mail address and mailing address with your poem to following INLS office address, fax or ANA Convention e-mail address. Indicate whether your poem is for competitive or non-competitive category.

2. Sundar Shanta Bishal Saanjh: An Evening with Litterateurs
This literary forum is tentatively scheduled from 8:30-9:30PM, Thursday, July 4th. This forum, organized in collaboration with International Nepali Literary Society and Academy of Nepali Poets and Writers, will feature literary work of litterateurs writing in English, Nepali and other ethnic languages of Nepal. It will highlight their recent publications, previous and upcoming work. In addition, it will provide a platform for various US-based literary organizations, on-line and paper-based literary journal publishers to discuss their services and network with other litterateurs and readers.
Note: The deadline for proposal submission is May 31, 2002. Proposals received after this date will be entertained on a first-come-first-serve basis only if presentation slots are still available.
3. In Their Own Words…: Works of Samrat Upadhyay and Others
This 1 hour and 30 min long forum is tentatively scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, July 6th, 2002. This forum will feature this year’s distinguished literary guest, Samrat Upadhyay, and readings from his award-winning “Arresting God in Kathmandu” and other upcoming works.
