Christmas Break and New Year

After the finals, everybody was ready to take a break. The Christmas holiday brought a way out for students. Three weeks was indeed a free ride. Everybody was wishing a Happy Holiday to each other. John Lennon once sang, “ free as a bird”. For the time being, we didn’t have to think about homework, quizzes and tests. Everybody was busy planning his or her vacation. Some might have thought about skiing down Colorado Mountains, some might have been sick and tired of midland’s crazy cold weather and decided to drive down South in a rented “Mustang” wearing ultra-violet protection sun-glass.

The Christmas spirit was everywhere in town. Form North Omaha Apartment to South Road Mall, from here to there, one could hear about Christmas shopping. Many people were busy using their credit cards. Especially women were busy explaining their shopping list and the price of the items they bought. Mrs. X said, “ My youngest son wants a X-Box from Microsoft and my husband’s sister’s family is coming from North Dakota for this Christmas.” “Mrs. B was explaining about her plans to go to Mississippi to meet her parents. Everybody enjoyed the Christmas tradition. Santa Claus made many kids happy. One happy kid was explaining that his step-dad bought him a DVD player.

The Christmas spirit is gone now and the New Year hope started. Everybody is wishing Happy New Year to his or her folks. Four Bs had been quite popular during this time. Somebody may have thought that four B must be a popular music band if not a popular Hollywood star or some sport star. It is nothing but a social tag that Generation X has been following. It is simply Bar, Beer, Babe and Barbeque. Many students have forgotten the value of traditional three E’s that is Education, Earning and Establishment? The New Year is about leaving the bad and accepting the good. It is about the refinement of Self. Let’s hope this New Year will bring better for all of us
