WHY ask WHY??
Many people do not realize that interrogations that leap with “Why” are very powerful ones and that they often require deep probing into the matter on hand and also demand careful thoughts and attention. And if I were to give priority and emphasis on one and only one method of questioning, I will without any shadow of doubt, highlight sentences starting with “Why” more than anything else. Now why do I say that or why would I rattle anything in this matter? Clearly there is a reason; as a matter of fact there are several reasons. Please, I stand corrected- there are numerous reasons why I say what I say.
To most of the part, I consider myself to be a law abiding citizen of Nepal in one perspective and law abiding US Non-citizen or alien on the other. So far with best of my judgement, I can rest myself and rest of the world assure I am a normal human being. Having clarified that, I would like to cut the rat’s tail and dive directly to why I have even tried saying what I am about to say now.
“Why” is the most important but very disturbing interrogative word. Let me start my reasoning by creating one sentence with “why”: Why Nepal is going through such a miserable time? And now try answering that question for me. I did and I got all confused and it did not take long for me to come up with major migraine headache after I asked myself that question. Let me just tell you, that question is not as powerful as this question- Why am I here in a foreign land and why it is so hard for us to go back to Nepal? Try answering that question for me. I completely failed answering that question. And believe in me when I say I tried really hard. For a long time I thought it was Education, then it changed to Money and right now I have no clue why I am here. I guess to find the spiritual and logical answer of this question, I have been travelling to Nepal every year. And sadly, my every effort turned futile. I am sure it is not only me who has been experiencing this spiky and awkward situation. Why is US better and Why we fail to contribute positively to our beloved nation? Why Nepali people are the way they are? Why we pollute our own cities, and then why we ask other nations to help clean them up? Why we live in such contradictions? Why we have momo parties almost every weekend here in the US followed by massive consumption of booze and end up talking about nothing and reminiscing Nepal? Why are we so confused about life? Why? Why?
You see, I have created a “Why” monster. May be it is better not to use “Why” at all. If I had not started sentences with “Why”, maybe I would have been better off. Then I can enjoy the Booze and Momos in parties. But everytime we have a Nepali get together here, no matter how committed and strong willed we are, we end up using “why” time and time again. It is impossible to completely discard or avoid “Why”. I think, to gain peace of mind-either I have to distance myself away from “why” or get reasonable answers to all these “why” questions. It would be great if we could get answers for “Whys” but meanwhile stop asking “WHY”. Why even bother!!
